    What is AURP?

DISCUSSION

Apple has been working with the IETF, and router vendors to provide enhancements to the AppleTalk Phase 2 routing protocol. The proposed protocol to provide better routing in large wide-area network environmentsis called "AURP."

AURP stands for Apple Update-based Routing Protocol. AURP is the routing information propagation protocol used for full "plug and play" functionality of AppleTalk. This protocol was designed to provide a continuum of options between the static and dynamic cases. In its most dynamic mode, it is functionally equivalent to the current AppleTalk routing information protocol (RTMP and ZIP).
