TOPIC Mac OS X Public Beta places fonts in up to three different locations for different levels of access. DISCUSSION In Mac OS X, there is not one centralized Fonts folder. There are several locations where fonts can be placed, and each grants a different level of availability. Fonts, like other types of software, may have licensing restrictions. Consider the license agreement that came with your fonts or the application that installed the fonts before making fonts available to all users on a network, for example.

The tilde (~) is an abbreviation for "The home directory for the current user." Fonts available only to a user named "Germaine" would be in the folder:
