After I installed System 7.0.1 on a networked Macintosh, Inter*Poll 1.0.1
is unable to see or identify the LaserWriter driver on the 7.0.1 system.
Is there a workaround for this?
To test:
1) Install 7.0.1 on a Macintosh on the network.
2) Start Inter*Poll on another Macintosh.
3) Choose System Information under the Special menu.
4) Click on the LaserWriter Driver Version radio button.
The 7.0.1 system won't show a LaserWriter Driver installed.
DISCUSSION
This isn't a problem. System 7.0.1 reports back the correct printer driver
information without any modification or update to any system resources.
Please read the information below.
Responder Information
---------------------
Version 1.1.1 of Responder doesn't report back any information for printer
drivers if the 7.0 drivers have been installed on a 6.x system. Responder
versions 2.0.2 and 2.0.3 are the correct versions to use and will report
back the correct printer driver information to Inter*Poll when installed on
a system 6.x Macintosh that is using the 7.0 print drivers. Before any
Macintosh will report the printer driver information, you must first select
a printer (driver) from the Chooser. (You don't actually have to select a
printer just a printer type, such as LaserWriter, ImageWriter, and so on.)
Then restart the Macintosh.
Another anomaly is that the 2.0.1 Responder is built into System 7 and must
be removed before any of the stand-alone versions (2.0.2, 2.0.3) will load
and function. None of the current N&C installers will remove the 2.0.1
Responder resource from the system. You must remove it manually before any
of the stand-alone versions of Responder will load on a System 7 Macintosh.
A good indication that the 2.0.1 Responder is installed as well as a
stand-alone version is that the responder icon will be X'ed out when the
INITs (extensions) are displaying their icons at startup time. The
built-in responder in System 7 is located in the AINI resource. The
resource number is 32000, size 4104.
Here is a matrix that describes where each version of Responder comes
from. This should help to sort out why so many different versions are
showing up on the BNR internet and help to get the correct versions
installed on the correct systems.
