TOPIC

We have Macintosh computers (PowerBook 170 and IIcx) running System 7. They will not retain default settings, such as changes to Views (like font size) or the Trash warning. After a restart or shut down, the settings return to default. Resetting the PRAM does not help.

DISCUSSION

It sounds like you might have a corrupted Finder Preferences file, found by following this path:

    System Folder
    - Preferences
    --Finder Preferences

    Try the following procedure:

    • Put the existing Finder Preferences file in the Trash can .
    • Restart your computer. (This will automatically create a new Finder Preferences file.)
    • Empty the Trash can.
