    We have a Macintosh IIsi with an Ethernet NB card, and we're having
    problems installing EtherTalk software from the System 7.0.1 disks. When
    we choose EtherTalk, the software appears to be installed, but it doesn't
    work.

    However, when we first install System 7.0.1, and then install the EtherTalk
    software from the EtherTalk 2.5.1 disk, everything works correctly.

DISCUSSION


    The EtherTalk software that ships with System 7.0 and System 7.0.1 was
    written prior to the introduction of the Ethernet NB board. In this case,
    the software was written with System 7.0 and carried forward to System
    7.0.1, so it doesn't install an Ethernet driver for the Ethernet NB board.
    It only installs a driver for the older EtherTalk NB board and the built-in
    Ethernet on the Macintosh Quadras.

    You can find the most current versions of Ethernet software for all of our
    boards on the NSI 1.1 disk. You can find an image of this disk in the
    Software Updates folder on AppleLink.
