TOPIC

What are the recommended long-term and short-term storage requirements for PowerBook computers?

DISCUSSION

In general, Macintosh PowerBook batteries need to cycled through a charge/discharge process on a regular basis.

    These rules apply:

Short-Term Storage (1 week or less)
The Macintosh PowerBook can be stored with the battery (fully charged) in the unit without the power adapter plugged in.

    Short-Term Storage (1 to 2 weeks)
The Macintosh PowerBook can be stored with the power adapter plugged in. After this period, a charge/discharge cycle should be performed. In other words, use the computer until the battery is drained and then recharge it fully.

Long-Term Storage (up to 6 months)
The battery should be fully charged, and removed from the PowerBook.

For more detailed information, see the section on battery storage in your PowerBook owner's manual.
