DISCUSSION Apple LaserWriter Printers: RAM Configurations
Unless otherwise noted, Apple LaserWriters use 30-pin, 80 ns memory SIMMs. Notes: 1. Has RAM soldered on the board. There are no RAM upgrades available. 2. These LaserWriter printers can be upgraded to a LaserWriter IIf or IIg. 3. The LaserWriter IINTX uses 64-pin, 120 ns (or faster) memory SIMMs. 4. The LaserWriter Pro 600 and 630 use 72-pin, 80ns (or faster) memory SIMMs. If you use a double-sided SIMM, you can only fill one SIMM slot since a double-sided SIMM electronically occupies both SIMM slots. 5. The LaserWriter Pro 810 uses special non-standard 4MB and 8MB memory modules. 6. The LaserWriter Select 310 uses 72-pin, 100 ns (or faster) memory SIMMs. 7. The LaserWriter Select 360 can be upgraded with a 72-pin, 80 ns 16MB (4 Mbit by 32 bit) SIMM with 2K Row refresh (11 bit by 11 bit). 8. The LaserWriter Select 360 may be upgraded to 16 MB total by removing the 4 MB SIMM and replacing it with a 16 MB SIMM. The remaining 3 MB of memory is disabled by the controller whenever a 16 MB SIMM is installed. 9. The Personal LaserWriter SC can be upgraded to a Personal LaserWriter NT. 10. The Personal LaserWriter NT printer's two SIMM slots are treated as one bank; therefore, you cannot combine 1MB and 4MB SIMMs to get a 5MB configuration. 11. The Personal LaserWriter NTR uses 72-pin, CAS before RAS, 80 ns (or faster) memory SIMMs. 12. The LaserWriter 16/600 PS uses 72-pin SIMMs.16 MB SIMMs with a 4K Row (10 bit x 12 bit) refresh configuration are not compatible with the LaserWriter 16/600 PS. Memory configurations of 16+0=16MB and 16+4=20MB are not supported by the LaserWriter 16/600 PS printer. 13. For the LaserWriter 12/640 PS printer, 16 and 32 MB SIMMs must have a 2 KB row (11 bit x 11 bit) refresh configuration. 16 MB SIMMs with a 4 KB row (10 bit X 12 bit) refresh configuration are not compatible with the printer.
14.
The Color LaserWriter 12/600 PS and Color LaserWriter 12/660 PS use 72-pin SIMMs. You can mix SIMMs of different capacities in the two SIMM slots. When installing memory simms of different sizes, the larger density SIMM can be installed into either memory slot. There should be no difference in installing larger density SIMMs in J10 or J11. It is important to remember, however, that you must use single-sided memory SIMMs when upgrading the printer's memory, if you intend to fill both memory slots. Double-sided SIMMs are recognized as two individual memory banks and could, therefore, cause problems when the printer attempts to address the memory SIMM in the other slot.
