This article describes how to reset your Apple MessagePad.

DISCUSSION

If your Apple MessagePad has "crashed" or stopped operating, you may want to reset your Apple MessagePad before you restart it.

To reset your Apple MessagePad, simply remove the rear panel of your Newton and press the reset switch with the plastic stylus that is included with your Apple MessagePad briefly. Then, power on your system by sliding the power switch down and letting it spring back.

To erase all of your data, including your personal information, dictionaries, handwriting training, and so on, follow these steps:
      1. Hold down the reset switch with your stylus.
      2. Pull down and hold the power switch while still holding the reset button.
      3. Release the stylus from the reset button, and continue to hold the power switch.
      4. A message appears asking if you want to erase all memory, tap Yes.
      5. Another message appears asking "Are you sure?", tap Yes.
You should then see the alignment screen. This indicates that you have now erased the entire contents of your Apple MessagePad. This procedure does NOT erase any software patches that are loaded into your Apple MessagePad.
