TOPIC

How does Newton learn my handwriting?

DISCUSSION

Newton learns to recognize your handwriting by understanding the individual characters that you write. Newton examines the way you move your pen to form each character, then uses the Text Recognizers settings in the Preferences Menu to determine how to interpret them.

    * If you have only selected "Words In word lists" in the Text Recognizers settings, Newton will only recognize words that are written in its word list. When you write a word, Newton will examine it and check the combination of letters against its word list; the best match is displayed on the screen. This option will provide the fastest and most accurate handwriting recognition.

    * If you have only selected "Words not in word lists," Newton will attempt to recognize any letter or groups of letters that are written. In this case, Newton will not compare them to the word list.

    * If you have selected both of these choices, Newton will interpret written characters, check them against the word list and display the best match.

Newton will continue to learn your handwriting as you continue to use it.
