Differences Between Ofoto for Windows and Ofoto for Macintosh
Ofoto for Windows, like Ofoto for Macintosh, was developed by Light Source Inc. It is nearly identical to Ofoto for Macintosh 1.1, except that it does not support QuickTime compression, and can run without a scanner present.
These are the other differences:
-
The eraser, pencil, and lasso tools have been removed.
-
Revert and Scan Orientation have been removed.
-
The Windows MDI (Multi-Document Interface) metaphor is used. There is a title bar over the menu bar for the application, with any number of images open within the application.
-
A single-line window at the bottom of the application describes menu commands that are being selected with the mouse.
-
The Tool bar is a separate floating window not attached to the image windows.
-
You can tell if an image is dirty (needs to be saved) if the upper-left and lower-right corners "bubble" out.
-
Operations that use the Option key and mouse on the Macintosh use the Shift key under Windows. Two examples: using Shift with the mouse to crop an image, and using Shift with the mouse to zoom out.
-
When Ofoto is run without a scanner, the functions that pertain to scanning are grayed out.
-
Printer Setup takes the place of the Macintosh version's Page Setup.
-
When you save a file in Ofoto, an auxiliary data file with an extension of the form OF? is also written to disk. This file is useful only if you intend to the read the image back into Ofoto. (On the Macintosh, this information is part of the resource fork, which doesn't exist in the DOS file system.) The "?" in the extension "OF?" can be any of these:
M (Microsoft Paint)
B (Windows Bitmap)
P (PC Paintbrush)
I (GEM Image)
T (TIFF)
E (Encapsulated Postscript)
File Formats
Ofoto for Windows reads the following file formats:
-
TIFF
-
EPS
-
PC Paintbrush (PCX)
-
GEM Image (IMG)
-
Windows Bitmap (BMP)
-
Microsoft Paint
System Requirements
Ofoto for Windows requires:
-
Microsoft Windows 3.0 (standard or enhanced mode only, real mode not supported)
-
MS-DOS 3.3 or greater (5.0 recommended)
-
VGA 640 x 480 resolution, 12MHz 286 or faster (386 or 486 preferred)
-
4MB RAM
-
Hard disk with at least 10MB available
-
Microsoft mouse or compatible
Ofoto Support
Light Source (the developer of Ofoto) no longer offers support or software upgrades, and has no plans to revise Ofoto to be compatible with current versions of the Mac OS.
