TOPIC

My Internet service provider (ISP) requires me to enter additional information beyond user name and password to gain access to the Internet. Is there a way to enter this additional information using the AirPort wireless networking system.

DISCUSSION

The AirPort Base Station supports dial-up connectivity to the Internet using the industry standard PPP connection method requiring only a user name and password to gain access to the Internet.

Some ISPs require additional information or confirmation of the name and password prior to granting access to the Internet. Because there is no way to interact with the AirPort Base Station during the connection process, ISPs that require anything more than name and password are not currently compatible with the AirPort wireless networking system.

The best test of ISP compatibility is to use the Remote Access control panel to connect. If you can enter your name and password and successfully connect to your ISP with no further interaction with the Remote Access control panel, you should be successful using AirPort.

Beginning with version 1.1 of the AirPort software, certain AirPort compatible connection scripts are provided and can be selected in the AirPort Setup Assistant or AirPort Admin Utility. To access these scripts in the AirPort Admin Utility:

      1. Open the AirPort Admin Utility.

      2. Click the Internet tab

      3. In the Configure modem section, choose a script from the Login script pop-up menu

If your ISP uses X2 modems, refer to article 58546: " AirPort Base Station: X2 Modem Compatibility ".

For information about America Online compatibility, refer to article 58544: " AirPort: America Online Compatibility "

Note: Wireless internet access requires AirPort Card, AirPort Base Station, and Internet Access (fees may apply). Some ISPs are not currently compatible with AirPort, including America Online. Range may vary with site conditions.
