This article contains instructions for downloading and installing the QuickTime Streaming Server 1.0.1 Update. This software was released by Apple 7 July 1999, and is available for downloading from Apple Software Updates Online. For the QuickTime Streaming Server Software, go to:
DISCUSSION Important Note: You must install the Mac OS X Server 1.0-1 or later patch prior to installing the QuickTime Streaming Server software. Please remember that the Administrator has access to every file on the server, use caution when moving or deleting files. If your Mac OS X Server computer does not have a connection to the Internet you will need to perform the following file transfers on another computer that does have a connection, and then copy them to your server computer. If your Mac OS X Server computer does have an Internet connection follow these steps: Using OmniWeb 1. Log in to the server as Administrator (or root). 2. Open the OmniWeb browser (/Local/Applications/Internet/OmniWeb.app). 3. The following directory contains the update you will need: http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/ English-North_American/Mac_OS_X_Server/QuickTime_Streaming_Server/ 4. Command-click the file QTSS_1.0.1_Update.tar and click the OK button in the dialog that appears. This will save the files into your download directory (~/Library/OmniWeb/Downloads/) 5. In the Viewer, go to the ~/Library/OmniWeb/Downloads/ directory. Single click QTSS_1.0.1_Update.tar and press Command+2. This will open the Contents Inspector. Click the Unarchive button and the tar file(s) will be expanded in the current directory. 6. Open Terminal.app and enter 'cd ~/Library/OmniWeb/Downloads' to move to the directory containing QTSS_1.0.1_Update.tar. 7. Enter 'pax -r -f QTSS.cpio' to extract the files from the archive. 8. In a Viewer Window go to the ~/Library/OmniWeb/Downloads/ directory. The easiest way to navigate to this directory is to type a ~ and press the Return key, then follow the directory structure down. You may have to update the window by pressing command-u to see the new files. 9. After reading the appropriate language ReadMe.rtf file, open the QTSSInstaller.assistant file. Step through the license agreement and then select "Install." In the window that appears click the Install button and then confirm that you want to install. The installer will ask if you are sure you want to run the installation because it contains programs that will be executed. Press the Continue button in this dialog. If the installer prompts you to replace existing files you should once again click Continue. 10. Shutdown the computer by choosing Log Out from the File Menu and clicking the Shutdown button in the dialog box that appears. 11. Start the computer normally and the updated components will be ready for use. Using the command line 1. Log in as Administrator (or root) 2. Open Terminal.app 3. Download the update from Apple's ftp server using the following commands:
bin cd Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/QuickTime_Streaming_Server get QTSS_1.0.1_Update.tar quit
5. Move to the /tmp directory be entering 'cd /tmp' in the terminal window. 6. In the Viewer, go to the /tmp directory. Single click the QTSS_1.0.1_Update.tar file and press Command+2.
